Lokal is an addition to Jersey City’s revitalized dining scene. Keeping to its namesake, the restaurant incorporates fresh and locally sourced ingredients from the Garden State. The food menu ranges from a raw bar and other seafood options, reflective of its waterfront location, to small plates made to be shared tapas-style—including pan seared scallops, homemade hummus, mushrooms al ajillio and rock shrimp—a flat bread section and more. There are various vegetarian and vegan options. The beverage menu boasts an extensive wine and craft cocktail program. Lokal has a large bar area, several private dining spaces and floor to ceiling windows providing panoramic, jaw dropping views of the Manhattan skyline..

Amazing view and a modern, classy restaurant-bar with a relaxed atmosphere. The food was good overall, and they also offer a solid kids’ menu. The pasta and burger from the kids’ menu were delicious, and the fries were great as well. The tuna tartare was tasty, although the tuna was chopped very finely, almost close to being ground. The oysters were fresh. The cheese board had a nice variety, though it was missing a goat or other soft white cheese, and it was served on a ceramic plate, which wasn’t ideal for presentation. Cocktails were decent, and the ice was made of perfectly transparent cut cubes, something you don’t see in every bar. The music level was just right, creating a comfortable ambiance. Overall, it was a very relaxing and enjoyable experience. ~ Pasha J
Lokal has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Jersey City. The space has a cool, modern vibe with plenty of light and an easygoing atmosphere that makes you want to linger. Their menu is thoughtful and always feels fresh—seasonal dishes, great vegetarian options, and flavors that really stand out from the typical waterfront spots. Brunch here is a must, with creative plates that go beyond the usual basics, and dinner never disappoints either. The cocktail list is playful and well put together, perfect to enjoy alongside the skyline views. What really sets Lokal apart is how versatile it is—you can come for a laid-back weekend brunch, a casual bite during the week, or a lively evening with friends. Checked this place out for a birthday dinner my friend planned for me and had the best time! Ambiance was nice and chic-looking with the option of outdoor seating (we decided to sit indoor since it was a bit hot outside). Once we were all seated, our server was attentive and helpful in choosing our cocktails to start off with. I decided to try the Watermelon Sames, which tasted refreshing and perfect for the summer (comes with a watermelon ball)! We also ordered a bunch of appetizers such as the seafood tower, truffle fries, goat cheese croquettes, etc. followed by our entreé, where majority of us ordered the braised short ribs. All tasted amazing and cooked to perfection. Definitely recommend for a celebration! Would also come back to check out their happy hour. ~ Hiromi I
